Play the lottery

Version 1.0. Effective from 13 October 2026. These rules apply to every draw from the first draw on Friday 6 November 2026.

1. Definitions

  1. “Society”, “we” or “us” means Girlguiding Tay and Ochils, Scottish charity SC002886, an unincorporated association whose principal office is at Old Third, Tullibardine, Auchterarder, Perthshire, PH3 1NJ.
  2. “Lottery” means the Girlguiding Tay and Ochils County Lottery. Each weekly draw is a separate lottery for the purposes of the Gambling Act 2005.
  3. “Player” or “you” means a person who has registered and bought one or more tickets.
  4. “Ticket” means a six-digit number entered into a single weekly draw at a price of £1.
  5. “Draw” means the random selection of winning tickets held every Friday at 8pm UK time, unless moved under rule 5.4.
  6. “Promoter” means the County Lottery Promoter, a member of the Society appointed in writing by the County Executive Committee to be responsible for the Lottery.
  7. “Working day” means Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays in Scotland.

2. Promoter and licensing

  1. The Lottery is a small society lottery promoted on behalf of the Society under Part 5 and Schedule 11 of the Gambling Act 2005.
  2. The Society is registered to promote small society lotteries with Perth & Kinross Council, the licensing authority for the area where its principal office is located.
  3. The total value of tickets put on sale in each draw will not exceed £20,000, and the total value of tickets put on sale across all the Society’s lotteries in a calendar year will not exceed £250,000.
  4. The Promoter is responsible for the Lottery and can be contacted at Old Third, Tullibardine, Auchterarder, Perthshire, PH3 1NJ, or by email at [email protected].
  5. No external lottery manager is used. The Lottery is run by volunteers, and no person is paid commission or a share of proceeds for selling tickets.

3. Eligibility

  1. You must be 18 or over to play. Although the law allows society lotteries to sell to people aged 16 or over, the Society has set a minimum age of 18 for this Lottery.
  2. You must be resident in the United Kingdom and have a UK bank account and UK debit card in your own name.
  3. Each person may hold only one player account. You must buy tickets for yourself with your own money. You must not buy tickets on behalf of, or as a gift for, anyone else.
  4. The Society’s trustees, the Promoter, the members of the Lottery Committee and anyone who conducts or witnesses a draw may buy tickets to support the Society but are not eligible to win prizes. Their tickets are excluded from the draw and the cost is treated as a donation.
  5. Under-18s, including members of Girlguiding, must never be asked or encouraged to sell or buy tickets.

4. Buying tickets

  1. Tickets cost £1 each per draw. Every ticket costs the same.
  2. You may buy between 1 and 10 tickets per draw. You may set a lower weekly limit at any time (see rule 11).
  3. You may enter a single draw or take out a weekly subscription. Subscriptions are charged by debit card every Thursday for that Friday’s draw.
  4. Payment must be made in full before 11.59pm on the Thursday before the draw. Tickets are only entered into a draw once payment has cleared. Credit cards are not accepted.
  5. You may choose your own six-digit ticket number. If it is already allocated for that draw, we will allocate the nearest unallocated number above it and tell you. Otherwise numbers are allocated at random (“lucky dip”).
  6. After each purchase we send you an email confirmation which states the name of the Society, the price of the ticket, the name and address of the Promoter, the date of the draw and your ticket numbers. The confirmation is your ticket.

5. Draw procedure and timings

  1. Draws take place every Friday at 8pm UK time at Old Third, Tullibardine, Auchterarder, Perthshire, PH3 1NJ, or another place within Perth and Kinross or Clackmannanshire announced on the Our Winners page.
  2. Winning ticket numbers are selected using a computer random number generator from all paid, eligible tickets in that draw. Each ticket has an equal chance of being selected, and a ticket can be selected only once per draw.
  3. Each draw is conducted by the Promoter and witnessed by a second person aged 18 or over, at least one of whom is a trustee. A signed record of the draw, the list of entries and the results is kept for at least three years.
  4. If a draw date falls on 25 December or 1 January, or if a draw cannot take place for reasons beyond our control, it will take place on the next practicable working day at 8pm using the same entries. We will publish the new date on the Our Winners page.
  5. Results are published on the Our Winners page by 12 noon on the next working day.

6. Prizes and odds

  1. Every draw has seven prizes: first prize £250; second prize £50; and five third prizes of £10 each. Total prizes per draw: £350.
  2. All prizes are cash and are guaranteed regardless of the number of tickets sold.
  3. The chance of a single ticket winning the first prize is 1 in the number of tickets in the draw. The chance of winning any prize is 7 in the number of tickets in the draw. For example, with 1,500 tickets the chance of winning first prize is 1 in 1,500 and of winning any prize is about 1 in 214.
  4. No single prize will exceed £25,000. There are no rollovers.
  5. Prizes cannot be transferred and no alternative to cash is offered.

7. Claiming and payment of prizes

  1. You do not need to claim a prize. We email every winner by 12 noon on the Monday after the draw (or the next working day).
  2. Before paying any prize we will verify your age and identity. We may ask for a copy of photographic identification and proof of address. A prize will not be paid until verification is complete.
  3. Prizes are paid by bank transfer to a UK bank account in the winner’s own name, normally within 14 days of the draw.
  4. If you are found to be under 18, or to have broken these rules, your tickets are void, any prize is forfeited and the cost of your tickets is refunded.

8. Unclaimed prizes

  1. If we cannot contact a winner or complete verification, we will try at least three times by email and once by post.
  2. A prize that has not been paid within 180 days of the draw because the winner could not be contacted or did not complete verification is forfeited and applied to the charitable purposes of the Society. It is not added to future prize funds.

9. Proceeds and charitable use

  1. At least 20% of the proceeds of every draw will be applied to the purposes of the Society, as required by the Gambling Act 2005. Our target is 50%.
  2. Expenses deducted from proceeds will be reasonable and will not exceed what is necessary to run the Lottery. Our target is no more than 15%.
  3. Within three months of each draw we send Perth & Kinross Council a return showing the proceeds, the amounts spent on prizes and expenses, and the amount applied to the Society’s purposes. We publish a yearly summary on the Where The Money Goes page.

10. Cancellation and refunds

  1. You may cancel a subscription at any time by emailing [email protected]. Cancellations received by 11.59pm on Wednesday apply to that week’s draw. Later cancellations apply from the following week.
  2. You may cancel within 14 days of first registering and receive a full refund for any draws that have not yet taken place.
  3. Tickets for a draw that has already taken place cannot be refunded, except under rules 7.4, 11 or 12.
  4. We may close a subscription and refund unplayed draws if we stop running the Lottery, giving at least 28 days’ notice where possible.

11. Limits on spend and self-exclusion

  1. Every player is limited to 10 tickets (£10) per draw.
  2. You may set a lower weekly limit of £1, £2 or £5. Reductions take effect immediately. Increases take effect after a 7-day cooling-off period.
  3. You may take a break of 6 weeks, during which no tickets are bought and no marketing is sent.
  4. You may self-exclude for any period from 6 months to 5 years. During self-exclusion your account is closed, no payments are taken, no marketing is sent and we will not knowingly accept a new account from you. Unplayed draws are refunded. At the end of the period your account stays closed unless you contact us to reopen it, and a further 24-hour wait applies before you can play.
  5. To use any of these options, email [email protected] with the subject “Limit”, “Break” or “Self-exclusion”. We act on these requests within one working day.
  6. If we believe gambling may be causing you harm, we may contact you, reduce your limit or close your account.

12. Verification and fraud

  1. We check every new player’s age using an electronic age-verification service before their first draw. If we cannot confirm your age, we will ask for documents. Until your age is confirmed your tickets will not be entered and any payment will be refunded.
  2. We may void tickets, withhold prizes or close accounts where we reasonably suspect fraud, use of a payment card that is not yours, multiple accounts or a breach of these rules.
  3. We are not responsible for entries that fail because of technical problems outside our control, but we will refund any ticket charged and not entered.

13. Complaints

  1. Complaints should be sent to [email protected] or to the Promoter at Old Third, Tullibardine, Auchterarder, Perthshire, PH3 1NJ.
  2. We acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and send a full written response within 28 days.
  3. If you are not satisfied, you may ask for a review by the Chair of the County Executive Committee, whose decision is our final response. You may also contact Perth & Kinross Council as the licensing authority that registers the Lottery.
  4. In the event of a dispute about a draw, the draw record kept under rule 5.3 is conclusive unless shown to be wrong.

14. Data protection

We use your personal data to run the Lottery, verify your age and identity, pay prizes, meet our legal obligations and support safer gambling. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

15. Changes to these rules

  1. We may change these rules. We will publish the new version on this page with its effective date and email subscribers at least 14 days before any change that affects them.
  2. If you do not agree to a change, you may cancel your subscription before it takes effect and receive a refund for any unplayed draws.

16. Governing law

These rules are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. Nothing in these rules affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Play responsibly

You must be 18 or over to play the Girlguiding Tay and Ochils County Lottery. Lottery play should be fun and never a way to make money. Only spend what you can afford. If gambling is causing you or someone you know harm, free and confidential help is available.

Tickets cannot be sold to anyone under 18. We may ask for proof of age before paying a prize.
