Get the travel bug with The Senior Section Spectacular 2016!
You’ll know by now that 2016 will see The Senior Section mark 100 spectacular years! If you’re keen to travel further afield for the celebrations, then read on to find out about the fantastic international opportunities on offer to Girlguiding Scotland members…
‘Join the Journey’ jailbreak challenge and ‘Catch us in Cologne’ wide game
Members of The Senior Section and their Leaders are invited to take part in the Spectacular 2016 jailbreak challenge – Join the Journey – which launches on 1 August 2016 from Girlguiding Scotland’s HQ in Edinburgh.
Participants will take part in an action-packed adventure across Europe with the aim of reaching Cologne by Saturday 6 August 2016. Each team will complete challenges along the way to earn their ‘parole’, such as photos with famous landmarks.
Jailbreak participants can then choose to take part in the ‘Catch us in Cologne’ wide game in the famous German city. Guides, members of The Senior Section and their Leaders can also travel to Germany separately to take part in the wide game.
Planning is still underway but full details will be released in autumn 2015 – keep an eye on Girlguiding Scotland’s website and social media for more details.
Want to celebrate 100 years of The Senior Section by taking part in an international adventure like no other? Bookings are now open for Roverway 2016, an international event hosted by the Federation of Scouts and Guides of France from 3-14 August 2016.
As part of a Patrol of six to eight UK Scouts or Guides - and a 'tribe' of 40 participants from across Europe - you'll start by exploring France for six days on one of a number of paths. You can choose one of four paths based on the themes of solidarity, culture, environment or peace.
Participants will then join 5,000 Scouts and Guides from all over Europe for the main event - five days of adventure at Yvelines, north-west of Paris. Activities at the camp will be themed around being your own superhero, broadening horizons, making choices and creating a better world.
As well as participants, Girlguiding are also looking to recruit a UK International Service Team open to all volunteers aged 22 and above.
Visit Girlguiding’s website for more information and how to apply. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2015.
Crossover event with Girlguiding Ulster
Another almost international opportunity is our fast-paced and fun ‘crossover’ weekend with Girlguiding Ulster. Northern Irish participants will cross the ocean to join a group of Scottish girls on Friday 12 August for fun, activities and an overnight stay in Stranraer, before all the Scottish and Northern Irish girls get the ferry back to Belfast together on Saturday for more of the same and an overnight stay at Lorne activity centre, travelling back home on Sunday.
That’s not all…
There will be a fantastic all-section Challenge badge, camps and more!
All will be revealed in September 2015, including detailed instructions and registration details for everything included in the programme – but in the meantime watch out for more emails and keep an eye on Girlguiding Scotland’s website and social media feeds to be in on the latest.
